Osaka Festa '98

on Nakanoshima Island, Osaka

THE legendary Osaka summer music festival, known for high quality sound, art, design and entertainment. OF98 featured upcoming Japanese avant-garde hipsters Zoobombs ('ZUBONZ' in Japanese...it means 'trousers') off the Quattro label, as well as the debut of hard rock outfit Trash, who put out their first album one month following the event. Also featured were Kansai-area international 5-piece Tripod Jimmy, a police-cut 2nd stage act by ODD (cops said it was indecent!) awesome sets by Cannon Shot, God O.D., and DJs Noah, Matt, John, Tom&Bob, and more. Over 15 live acts on 2 stages on an AMAZING June Sunday, with the river on both sides of you. Stage 2 seemed to attract more of the bellbottoms, huddled right next to the speakers and painted their bodies. When the sun started setting, people packed the grounds all the way to the Tanimachi-suji bridge. Even though the drunk city employees threatened to tattle if we went over time, the music ended at the exact SECOND and everyone floated back home. Sponsors were happy, the city was happy, cops said 10,000 people showed up, and the guys who live in the park helped clean up afterwards. Now if I could only figure out where I dropped those keys...
